What is the difference between diesel fuel and gasoline?
Friday, January 29th, 2010Is diesel cleaner or dirtier in the same size car?
If diesel is better, why don’t they just make more?

Not a matter of better, matter of how each works. Diesel emits a lot of carbon in its exhaust, gasoline emits a lot of CO and CO2. Both emit sulfur…so it isn’t a matter of cleaner.

Nowadays, diesel is cleaner and better for fuel economy. Provide for more torque too.
As for the last part of your question.. ask the oil execs who are milking us for every penny they possibly, legally, can.

Latest euro diesel car are much cleaner, and fuel efficiency is much better than gasoline.Consumer demand and preference for gasoline over diesel.Unless the consumer mindset change over to diesel then the manufacturer will produce more.Supply and demand situation!

Bio-diesel is the way to go, Europe is big on it but we are still trailing everyone else in the world in alternative energy. Could it be because the numbers #1 & #2 polititions in America are Oil Barons?

Diesel engines dont have spark plugs. The explosion is created by the fuel itself. Internal combustion engines have spark plugs to create an explosion. Thanx 4 asking!

diesel is compression ignition and gas is spark ignition. this means that the way a diesel engine works is the piston goes down filling the cylinder with air then it comes back up and when the piston is about 5-15 degrees from top-dead-center the fuel is injected into the chamber and the heat makes it fire. in a gas its much the same execpt when the piston goes down the chamber fills with a gas-air mixture and the spark plug is what makes the fuel burn. the biggest reason that they dont make all of one type is that diesel engines are more powerful at the same size. which is why they use diesels in semi-trucks. however gas powered cars have the benifit of being able to start when they are in -20 degree weather. diesels would take longer to start because the heat would have to get high enough to make the fuel ignite. also gasoline is explosive and diesel is just flamable. gas will make a better bomb then diesel because diesel will just sit there and burn until there is no more oxygen to hold a flame. would you want to plug your car into the house to keep it warm enough to start or else take 15 minutes starting your car? if not then that is why that use gas in cars

Diesel is better all around. If they make more of it, they have to make more gas; this is because diesel is a byproduct of making gas and used to be disposed of until the found a use for it
