diesel engines are much tougher, more pulling power (torque), get better mileage compared to gasoline engines, and they just last longer. And in europe, diesel fuel is cheaper because it gets taxed differently.

Me being a truck driver I can tell you that Diesel engines produce more torque than you could get from a gasoline enngine, this helps get the load rolling doen the road quicker and gets up the hills better. Also diesel engines have a lot longer life than gasoline engines if properly maintained they can go up to a million miles before needing a rebuild. If all the trucks on the road today were gasonine powered there would be far more traffic jams due to slow trucks.

More power per unit of fuel, better mileage and more torque, due to the longer stroke of a diesel engine. Big trucks don't need the fast acceleration of a passenger car, and once they get up to speed diesel burns much more efficiently. The other factor is the longevity of the engine itself.

They last alot longer, and produce more torque than gas engines, which is what gets all that weight moving, and they're more efficient too, most big trucks get 4-6 MPG, considering the amount of HP/Torque they make and weight they pull thats pretty amazing.

Probably the most important,is that diesel engines get better fuel mileage, and also are more durable and longer lasting than unleaded engines.
