How come trucks are charged hire tolls and how come trucks cannot use automatic coin basket lanes?
Thursday, January 21st, 2010Hi, I would like to know why truck tolls are always higher, and how come trucks cannot use automatic coin basket lanes? Please let me know thank you.

Well I can tell you from a drivers point of view that they charge more for whats called Axles. Now truck charges are because they carry more weight then cars do and the government wants more because of the stress they put on bridges and roads.

They are charged more because the idea is that the tolls pay for ROAD UPKEEP. So Big Trucks do more damage to the road so they have to pay more. It’s really pretty fair when you think about it. I’d assume they can’t use to the automatic coin basket BECAUSE they pay more.

they pay by axle so many axles so much money//weight is calculated like that

They have separate lanes to prevent traffic congestion. Trucks normally stay right on the road. Plus, a regular coin basket meant for cars may not be situated to serve trucks. Also, many trucks use automatic toll systems (EZ Pass) so they don’t have to stop for the toll.
